Downloading GapiDraw

Begin by downloading the latest distribution package. The executable file contains the installation package, and all files have been virus scanned by the latest version of Norton Antivirus. You can install GapiDraw to any folder. If you choose the folder "C:\GapiDraw" as installation folder, GapiDraw will create the following folder hierarchy:

C:\GapiDraw
    ....dll
    ....doc
    ....include
    ....lib
    ....license
    ....misc
    ....samples

If you want a quick demonstration of the performance of GapiDraw, you can start the file "mfc.exe", located in the folder "Samples\Win32\MFC\VS\Release". You should now see a full screen version of the demo application running in 800x600 on your desktop. If you instead start the file "mfc.exe" located in the folder "Samples\MFC\XP\Debug", you should get the windowed 320x240 version.

The file "mfc.exe" from the "Debug" folder.

Emulators

To use GapiDraw with the Visual Studio 2005 emulator just set the target for any of the sample applications to the Pocket PC or Smartphone emulator.

To use GapiDraw with any of the older Pocket PC 2000-2003 or Smartphone 2002-2003 emulators you have to copy the correct GapiDraw DLL to the emulator and save its state.

To copy the correct GapiDraw DLL to the emulator, use the program "CEFILEVW.EXE", located in the folder "Windows CE Tools\BIN". The file is installed with Embedded Visual Tools. You can also start the file copier by starting Microsoft Embedded Visual C++, and chosing the menu "Tools->Remote File Viewer". The GapiDraw DLLs are located in the folder "GapiDraw\DLL". Place the correct DLL in the "\Windows" folder on the emulator using the "Export" menu command. If you use the Pocket PC 2002/2003 or the Smartphone 2002/2003 emulators you need to remember to save the emulator state when you shut it down.

To run a sample application in the emulator, simply copy the executable file from the correct folder to the emulator using the CEFILEVW program. The folder "PPC" contains all Pocket PC builds, and the folder "TPC" contains all Smartphone builds.

Issues

You may receive a warning message trying to start the debug version of the mfc sample application, saying that you miss the file "MFC42D.DLL". This file contains the debug version of the MFC library, and is automatically installed with Visual Studio 6.0 or Visual Studio.NET.

Uninstalling

The installer does not contain an option for uninstalling GapiDraw. All files are placed in the installation folder. Remove that folder and the registry key "HKLM->SOFTWARE->Develant Technologies ", and everything added to your system is removed.
